How To Play Roulette

What is Roulette?

Roulette is one of the oldest and most popular games played in modern Casinos. Roulette is a unique table game as it has a mechanical device as the main element of the game. This is the Roulette wheel that is mounted horizontally on the end of the table. The wheel has numbered pockets ranging from 0 to 36 - and 00 in American Style Roulette.

In Roulette the bets are placed on an area of the table marked with separate boxes containing individual numbers. This marked area is called the game layout, and you may place bets on any particular number, any 4 adjacent numbers, a column or a dozen bet.

The wheel determines the outcome of a game of Roulette. Once the bets have been placed on the table, the wheel starts spinning and a small ball is released on to the wheel in the opposite direction of the spinning wheel. The ball slows and eventually stops in one of the numbered pockets in the Roulette wheel.

 Roulette Features

The Spin button will start a game of Roulette by setting the wheel in motion and releasing the ball on to the wheel. You will only be allowed to spin if you have enough credits available to match the chips placed on the table.

The table felt is divided according to a traditional Roulette table. To read up on the different types of bets available, see the Types of Bets section. Left-click on the table to place or increase a bet, and right-click to decrease.

The Chip Size menu enables you to adjust the size of the increments of your bet. If you are using a chip size of 1, then each click will only add or remove 1 from the current pile of chips on the table.

The Undo, Redo, Clear and Repeat buttons enable you to quickly change the bets on the table.

The Undo button removes all changes made to the table since the last bet.

The Redo button reverses the undo action.

The Clear button removes all chips placed on the table.

The Repeat button will restore the betting state on the table to what it was before the previous spin of the wheel. And will replace any bets that were removed from the table.

When you move the mouse over the Roulette table, a ToolTip will display the amount bet for each area.

Playing the Game

There are two basic steps to follow to play a game of Roulette.

First, you must decide on the numbers, or groups of numbers, that you want to bet on. To place your bets on these numbers, left-click on the table felt. You can place chips on individual numbers or on the borders shared by two or more numbers. If you want to decrease or remove a bet from the table, right-click the chip pile.

Once you have placed your bet, click the Spin button to start the game. The Roulette wheel will start spinning and a small ball will be released on to the wheel in the opposite direction of the spinning wheel. The ball will lose speed and eventually stop in one of the numbered pockets in the wheel.

If the ball lands on a number that you have bet on, then you have won. To find out how much each bet is worth, refer to the Table Odds section.
